The art of storytelling through multiple images is an artform in the genre of Photography. Starting with the first photo book, The Pencil of Nature, by William Henry Fox Talbot, to the collaboration between Langston Hughes and Roy DeCarava to current books which are thematic by Lee Friedlander the book has been paramount to photographers showing their work.Creation of a book using a variety of techniques one will learn to sequence, and create a book through a variety of methods that speak to storytelling.

Students will throw, wet alter, and of course play with fire.  Methods such as use of sodium silicate, slip dragging, mishima, sgraffito, and carving will be explored. Students who participate will also receive a $15.00 certificate to Glazes Galore in February 2017 to come back and glaze the pieces made. All materials included.

A photograph is a great model to inspire creation. Many of the world’s master painters have used the photograph as a visual record and inspiration for new developments in painting. Pastel is a versatile and direct medium as well as a seamless way to transition from drawing into painting. In this class we will explore a variety of materials and working methods of soft pastel. Create beautiful prints as you learn how to transfer images onto paper or cloth using the printing press. Artists have long been intrigued with this popular medium for the speed, spontaneity, and open, free quality it offers. In brief, a monoprint is a method by which an image is created on a plate (such as Plexiglas®), and then transferred onto paper using a press. You can use many textures to enhance an image, and luminous fluid brush strokes and delicate markings offer the element of surprise. Limited editions or unique one-of-a kind prints can be created with the use of rich and colorful inks, making the options varied and endless. In addition to the monoprint, you will be introduced to relief printing and image transfers. You will work on individual projects in a supportive and informal class environment where you will receive individual attention to help obtain your envisioned image. All levels are welcome. Explore traditional and contemporary etching methods, including monotype and monoprinting. Taught by a world-renowned printmaker and founding member of the Manhattan Graphics Center, Vijay Kumar will share his expertise in a variety of printmaking techniques. In this class geared to both the beginning and experienced printmaker, you will be encouraged to use and combine various techniques, such as drypoint, soft and hard ground, aquatint and spit bite, as well as viscosity printing, transferring photocopies directly onto the etching plate and working in a painterly manner with toner or sugar lift.  Experience this beautiful and versatile art form for yourself! All levels welcome. Some materials are included; additional materials list will be discussed during the first class.

“Pique Assiette” is a style of mosaic that incorporates pieces of broken ceramics, plates cups and tiles.  This is placed onto a Terracotta pot and put into a design using a focal point.  It is also the idea of humor, art of recycling and the significance of found objects.
