Stretch your creativity and get out of that rut! Combine extruded, slab and wheel-thrown forms to build more interesting functional and sculptural pieces. You will use the slab roller and extruder (for solid and hollow forms) and, if you are wheel-oriented, receive instruction on improving wheel skills. You will experiment with surface texture, slip decorating, underglazes, and related finishing/glazing techniques. Prerequisite: At least one basic course (or permission from Instructor).

A photograph is a great model to inspire creation. Many of the world’s master painters have used the photograph as a visual record and inspiration for new developments in painting. You will not duplicate the photo but rather interpret it, cropping and using proportional experimentation to achieve a painting of a similar or different sensibility. Create beautiful prints as you learn how to transfer images onto paper or cloth using the printing press. Artists have long been intrigued with this popular medium for the speed, spontaneity, and open, free quality it offers. In brief, a monoprint is a method by which an image is created on a plate (such as Plexiglas®), and then transferred onto paper using a press. You can use many textures to enhance an image, and luminous fluid brush strokes and delicate markings offer the element of surprise. Limited editions or unique one-of-a kind prints can be created with the use of rich and colorful inks, making the options varied and endless. In addition to the monoprint, you will be introduced to relief printing and image transfers.
